2006 winners:

Category A:  For excellence in operational response

Winner: Metropolitan Police - for the response to the media after the July 7th bombings

Category B:  For excellence in planned communications

Winner: Grampian Police - for the Aberdeen vandalism awareness campaign

The judges also highly commended the entries of: Metropolitan Police and West Midlands Police

2005 winners:

Category A: For excellence in operational response

Winner: Cumbria Police - the flooding of Carlilse and other towns.

The judges also highly commended the entries of:  Metropolitan Police Service and Devon and Cornwall Constabulary.

Category B: For excellence in planned communications

Winner: Wiltshire Constabulary - internet chat room safety campaign.

The judges also highly commended the entries of: Metropolitan Police Service and Greater Manchester Police

 

2004 winners:

Category A: For excellence in operational response

Winner: Avon and Somerset Constabulary - operation Julie - campaign was around the hunt for a sex attacker in the Bournville Estate.

The judges also highly commended the entries of: Thames Valley Police and Strathclyde Police.

Category B: For excellence in planned communications

Winner: Essex Police - Crack under Pressure - a response to the threat of crack supply spreading into the county.

The judges also highly commended the entries of: Wiltshire Constabulary and Avon and Somerset Constabulary.

 

2003 winners:

Category A: For excellence in operational response

Winner: Essex Police – The hunt for Danielle Jones – Operation Spinnaker
The strategy was to keep the story in the public eye with the help of the media in the hope that Danielle and her murderer would be found.

The judges also highly commended the entries of: Wiltshire Constabulary, Metropolitan Police and Northumbria Police.

Category B: For excellence in planned communication

Winner: Avon and Somerset – The Action on Street Campaign.
The strategy was to form a partnership approach with a number of agencies to tackle street crime, particularly in central Bristol.

The judges also highly commended the entries of: Northamptonshire Police and Sussex Police.

 

2002 winners

Category A: For excellence in operational response

Winner: Sussex Police - The conviction of Roy Whiting for the abduction and murder of Sarah Payne – Operation Maple.
The strategy was to develop an active partnership with the media, positively engaging their support to find Sarah.

The judges also highly commended the entries of: Greater Manchester Police, Thames Valley Police and Surrey Police.

Category B: For excellence in planned communication

Winner: West Midlands Police – Text Messaging Service for the Deaf.
The strategy was to launch an SMS text messaging service to allow people who are hard of hearing or speech impaired to contact the police in an emergency.

The judges also highly commended the entries of: Essex Police, Humberside Police and Wiltshire Constabulary.

 

2001 winners

Category A: For excellence in operational response

Winner: The Metropolitan Police – Mayday Protests (2000).
The strategy was to co-operate fully with the media and be proactive in offering briefings, interviews and facilities.

The judges also highly commended the entries of: Cambridgeshire Police, the National Crime Squad, Northumbria Police, Cheshire Police and the British Transport Police.
Category B: For excellence in planned communication.

Winner: Northamptonshire Police – Safety Camera Project

A marketing strategy was essential, and one of the many criteria was 'openness and honesty', to spread the message that speed kills and to encourage motorists to stick to the speed limit.

In the judge's opinion the winner was, by far, an outstanding example of a clearly thought-through media strategy, working in harmony with the operational plan.
The judges also highly commended the entries of: West Midlands Police, Greater Manchester Police, Fife Constabulary, the RUC and West Yorkshire Police.
