Programme & initiative applications

Three examples of the kind of work we undertake in this area are:

MOD Enhanced Learning Credits initiative

As part of its commitment to the recruitment, retention and development of its personnel, the MOD has recently announced the Enhanced Learning Credits initiative. We are the managing agent for this scheme which enables all eligible Armed Forces personnel to claim a grant for their own personal training and development.

Eligible personnel will be able to claim up to 80% of the costs of approved development activities for example the completion of degrees or professional qualifications. We have been handling applications to join the scheme from April 2003 and processing claims from 2004.

Since the contract we have processed some 200,000 applications to join the scheme. We have built a relational database to hold extensive information on each applicant and the approved training provided.

GSL also manage over 700 Approved Training Providers with whom claimants can use their Learning Credit.

Headteachers' Induction Programme

The National College for School Leadership provides career-long learning and development opportunities, professional and practical support for England's existing and aspiring school leaders. In 2003 we were appointed by the NCSL to administer the Headteachers' Induction Programme, a new initiative by which newly appointed headteachers can claim grants for training and development to support them in their role. GSL will be responsible for processing up to 3000 registrations and claims per annum and, subject to strict guidelines making payments to claimants.

National Managing Agent, Investors in People UK

To maintain the credibility and consistency of the Investors in People standard Investors in People UK needs to ensure the quality of training delivered via regional quality centres to all consultants and assessors. They have appointed GSL as managing agent to ensure that all training provision meets the necessary standard and also to advise on the development of future training materials and programmes. To facilitate this we must maintain a register of and contact with all the regional training providers.
